Just been given a stethoscope - how's best to use it?
Have mild heart failure. For between doctors appointments (few and far apart, and I'm getting to hate going anyway) my friend who is a nurse has given me a stethoscope to check my heart rate and rhythm. Is there a technique? I have a fast heartbeat but all I can hear is a blur of sound, my friend said she could hear all the valves and easily count my beats
Put it in a drawer and leave it alone. You are not trained in its use nor in understanding the results yoj may record. All you will succeed in doing is worrying yourself more and cause extra stress.
Would you use a scalpel if she gave you one? Exactly. Forget it.
