What are common tax deductions for doctors?
I'm a new doctor. Can I deduct my state medical license fee ($75), my state controlled substances license fee ($150), my DEA license fee ($300), work related books/literature ($200), cost of scrub suits ($100), cost of medical equipment like stethoscope ($200), and other work-related expenses?? I also paid $665 to take the 3rd step of the USMLE, but my understanding is that is NOT deductible.
Of all the items you mention, the scrubs, your work related books and stethoscope could be possibly be deducted.
These added up to $500. If you made more than $25000, none of this will end up increasing your schedule A. If you weren't itemizing anyway, it's a moot point.
(As a new doctor, the fees for licensing aren't deductable. My costs in sitting for the CPA exam weren't either.)

I'm going to school to be a Medical Assistant. Is it worth it? I'll be paying $22,000 for my schooling?
This will also include phlebotomy and EKG Tech that I'll get certification for also my scrubs, stethoscope, parking pass, books and tutoring if I need it. I will get out of school after 14 months and have an Associates degree. I'm going to ECPI. Has anyone ever gone there? Is it a rip off? Please tell the truth. I don't have many options and I have 2 more days to withdraw and get a refund. Please HELP! Thanks!
Don't withdraw just because of only $22,000. Are you going to increase your life time earnings potential by more than that amount by getting the degree? Of course you will, by a long shot, so its definitely worth it.
