What is a good additive for your standard car, engine lubricating oil or do you need it ?
For a motor car that is more than 10 years old and the engine is a bit noisy .
The mileage and condition of your engine is to be considered too. You shouldn't need to use additives. Just use a good brand of oil and change every 3K. I ran a venerable 350 Chevy for 250K (that's a quarter of a million) miles. Every few years I you put a can of Restore in with an oil change. It's one of the few products that actually do any good. Change your air filter every 3 of 4 oil changes too. They are neglected on most cars.

Is an oil lubricated Sturmey-Archer AW hub any different from the grease lubricated one?
On one of my bicycles the previous owner has replaced the gear hub with a later (1991) grease lubricated hub. I do not like these, as they require regular dismantling to replace the grease. I prefer the old ones with an oil cap. I was wondering if it would be possible simply to drill a small hole in the side of the casing and fit a cap to it, in order to convert it to oil lubrication. Would this work?
I see no reason why you couldn't do it. Just make sure you match the position of the hole with an existing hub... and don't get any metal shavings in the works!
That's why I like diesel engine over gasoline engine, more low end torque.
