Lightweight Acrylic
Crafting an Acrylic computer case?
Was thinking of creating a custom computer case, crafted entirely from Acrylic. Not worried about aesthetics, simply that it is durable, strong, and lightweight / portable.
How difficult is it to screw into acrylic? What should be the minimum thickness of such a case? Any suggestions on the best kind of Acrylic glue? For keeping two pieces together?
And, in regards to the size, how thick should it be?

Also, how difficult is working with Acrylic? I am not a seasoned crafter, without much too much expierence, would I be at a high risk for cracking the Acrylic? And, if anyone can make suggestions as to where to get Acrylic at a reasonable price. Currently looking at www.TAPPlastics.com Thanks!
Sounds like a great idea!
Before we start, My suggestion would be to make your
Computer Case out of Lexan.
I have worked with both and Acrylic is very susceptible
to cracking:
When drilling holes.
When sawing to size.
If you drop it. Would not have to very far either.
Lexan is more malleable, not sure if that is the correct term.
You can put a scrap piece of Lexan in a vice and beat it
over to 90 degrees with a hammer without breaking it.
You can place a scrap piece on the concrete and beat on
it with a ball-peen hammer and wear yourself out.
Depending on the thickness of Lexan, it is bullet proof.
Enough with the Raa, Raa, Raa on Lexan.
Your choice of materials is your call.
I will try to provide some price comparisons at the end.
As far as thickness, I recommend 1/4 inch minimum.
If you are planning a hinged cover, you can drill and tap the
bolt holes in the case for the hinges.
Or put nuts on the back side of the bolts.
Use a coarse thread bolt around a 10-24. A 10-24 bolt is about
3/16 inch in diameter.

What is this like compared to real mirror glass?
I have seen an online store selling cool mirrors. The one I want is described as follows. My question is, what is this going to be like, have you ever had one made of that, and what did you think of it? Anyway

Whilst being 10x stronger than conventional mirrors, they are still extremely light weight which makes them very simple to hang using the adhesive pads provided or any general fixing adhesive you may prefer.
I think I would like to see something like that in person before I purchased it.

Myself? I would rather have a real mirror.
