Can I consult a psychiatrist for this?
I would like to have my cognitive abilities assessed by a professional (IQ, short term memory, logic etc) except that I don't know which health professional I should consult! Someone recommended a psychiatrist who specializes in diagnosing patients, which sounds appropriate but there's something awkwardly 'intense' about seeing a psychiatrist. THX
Consult your local school administration office, they should be able to proctor an exam, or point you in the right direction.

my 10 yr.son was assessed with an autism spectrum disorder by an APRN,step by step how do i get a diagnosis?
He was diagnosed with adhd but i feel that he possibly has aspergers syndrome. We had a PPT at his school and his teacher does not feel that AS is a possibility.They are going to test him but i want my own specialists to test him as well.Can someone please tell me what type of tests need to be conducted and from what kind of professionals.I,m a mom in desperate need please help!

Over here its the educational psychologist that makes the initial diagnosis and then the ed psych makes the relevant reconmendations to whoever needs to be informed, the ed psych will usually do it all for you.
If you want your own specialist to do an assessment then youcan take your son to your doctor and tell him your fears and ask for an assessment of AS. He will then refer you to a pediatrician etc who will tell you what they are going to do etc. Try not to worry too much i know its a very difficult time and you are clearly worried but you are doing all you can to help your child.
