1998 cherokee 4.0 auto, injector miss on cylinder one, swap injector with cyl2, #1 still misses, and stays ope
stethoscope confirms regular firing on all other cylinders at all engine speeds, whichever injector in position one will not fire consistently, unsure how to test signal to injector as the injectors themselves, however old do not seem to be the problem.
the last injector wire i fixed had a mouse chrew thr one of the #1 wires - got solder gun. Check the wires manually & you can check with meter also

How difficult is it for an average person, not a seasoned mechanic, to change out the power steering pump?
I have an auto stethoscope and when I listen to the power steering pump on my 2000 Nissan Frontier 4 cylinder truck, its just too loud for my taste. What can I do?(to save $).
If you are even the slightest bit handy, it is not a big deal to do. The most expensive thing to get is the pump. You can find it for a little over $100 at most auto parts stores. They will also change for a core, usually around $50, which you get back when you bring in your old pump off the truck. When you get the new pump, you can look at it to see exactly where the bolts that hold it on go. That will make it easier to uninstall the old one.

In the links to the right on that page, there is also a section that will tell you how to "bleed" the air out of the lines after you install the new one. If you still have doubts you can buy a manual for your truck for $10-15. If you get the one made by Haynes, it is geared toward people with little experience, and has plenty of pictures.
Make sure you have basic tools, like a ratchet, extensions, sockets, maybe a swivel, and some open ended wrenches. That should do it...Good Luck!
