Belt tensioner question ford car?
I got a 96 ford contour, and the belt is screeching. I just replaced the belt idler pulley on it. I thought it may be coming from the belt tensioner, but I was told they hardly ever go bad. Iv'e listened by ear and I can't pinpont the exact location even with a stethoscope. I sprayed some belt dressing on the belt and it stopped it from squaling, but it comes back in mins afterwards. I watched the belt tensioner it moves back and fourth while running. Is it supposed to move at all? Iv'e listened to the alternator and power steering pulley,s they sound okay. What do yall think it could be?
and the belt itself looks to be in great shape.
the belt tensioner pulley does normally move .. my thought would be to change your belt. some times belts look ok but if you pay close attention to them they actually have small cracks on the inside.it it does have those small cracks i would suggest replacing it.... hope this helps

1997 Mercury Cougar won't run?
I'm working on a 1997 Mercury Cougar 3.8 injected. It just randomly died on the road at about 40mph and won't restart. It will run if ether is sprayed into the throttle body but it won't start and run on it's own. I connected an OBD2 code reader and it has a connection error everytime. The crank position sensor and the module that controls the fuel injection located behind the airbox has been replaced since the incident. I used a stethoscope and I don't believe the injectors are firing, all I hear is the hum of the fuel pump. I have 40 psi at the injectors.
ok check to see if the fuel is reaching the engine. i,am thinking it might be the fuel filter. if you have good fuel getting to the engine then maybe the fuel regulator on the fuel rail is bad and not letting the fuel to get to the injectors. if that is,nt the case then check for spark at the plugs. no spark? then maybe it,s the coil or module.
