Educated opinions about Mitral Valve Prolapse?
I was recently told I have Mitral Valve Prolapse. The cardiologist said it was minor and could come and go. I have had no symptoms at all, my boyfriend discovered it while listening to my heart with his stethoscope (he works in the Cath Lab as a tech). I exercise vigorously. I am 30 and in good health (5'2" 115 pounds). My BP has never been abnormal. I am reading past questions on here about this and seeing DOCTORS answer these questions and the answers surprise me. I've read on here that it is a serious abnormality, you can't have kids, you shouldn't do cardio exercise...this is NOT what I was told OR what I have read about this at all. I have researched a bit and from what I have read it is VERY common (more in women) and is NOT serious. One in 20 have it...so what's the story?? Are there different degrees of MVP? Can it come and go? As long as I feel fine I'm not concerned but some of the answers I've read are way off from what I was told.
there are cases of MVP which require surgery...and are life altering...in your case...the dr said it was minor....most people have a minor form of MVP...its also known as athe heart murmer

We Are... Retarted
I can lower and raise my heart rate at will, dangerous?
I used to take martial arts and they taught us to have complete control over our breathing, then they would drill us until we could hardly stand. i would have to keep going through regulating my body conditions.
but now i have discovered i can easily (and quite calmly) raise and lower my heart rate at will (not slightly either, im talking about going from turtle speed to racing heart attack speed in a matter of seconds) it has its advantages, (especially when a doctor breaks out a stethoscope)
but i get really random heart and chest pains (but i eat really healthy).
is this a safe thing to do? (any doctors in the house?)
pretty sure my diet isnt the problem, i don't consume any high fructose corn syrup.
and i'd like to add that the heart issues are weeks after i do it. they aren't anywhere close to each other, i just am thinking they might be connected.
oh my god seriously? shutup about the acai berry this guy is having heart not cellulite issues!!! okay, dude thats impressive and i can do it too through controlling my breathing. if there is serious pain, you should stop because over working the heart muscle can have serious affects when you get old. i would try minimize the time you use to do this trick. this way you ensure a healthy life later on.
