Was this normal for my doctor to do?

Okay well I just switched doctors & I used to have a female. I had to switch because I moved to a different area & it was to much of a travel. I didn't really care about having a male doctor because growing up that's what I had & it really wasn't a big deal to me. But anyway when he was checking my heart he had me lay down & then he put his hand under my shirt & my bra to check it? So he was like cupping my breast while he was checking my heart. He moved his stethoscope around alil too but his hand still remained. It seemed like forever that he was doing this but idk if just seemed that way. This was just a normal checkup btw & I am 18 Other then this the exam was okay. I am just wondering is this normal for some doctors to do? My other doctors never did but could this just be his technique or w.e? Should I just find a new one?

Okay, as a doctor, can I just say that there ARE times when the doctor will feel under shirt/bra especially whilst doing a cardiovascular exam. Either:

1. He was moving your breast out of the way to listen to the apex of the heart
2. He was feeling for your apex beat (i.e. to assess whether your heart was enlarged or the nature of the heart beat, which can differ in certain cardiac conditions)

It isn't something that is done routinely unless there are specific concerns, however, given you are a new patient, he may have been doing a 'thorough' or 'proper' cardiovascular exam on you to obtain a full picture of your clinical state as opposed to the 'abbreviated' cardiovascular exam that most people do.

Ultimately though, if it made you feel uncomfortable then that is the main thing. At no time should you be feeling uncomfortable during an examination. To be honest, these days, having a chaperone is usually wise given the nature of our work.
