Stethoscope Question?
Hi, Im wanting to buy my first stethoscope (im a med student)-I was wondering, I know I definitily want a Littmann (heard lots of good things). Im just wondering, what one would people recommend? And what is the difference in performance when it comes to getting one with a bell, or one that is tunable?

I can't speak to the newer tunable stethoscopes, but the traditional Littmann's have been around for almost 50 years and remain very popular. They are light weight, comfortable, and provide good sound transmission. I am most familiar with the pediatric models and they are fine for heart, lung, bruits, bowel sounds and BP monitoring. In my brief stint in the tropics I also used it to swat flies. The adult model works better for that.
Personally, I would not recommend the most expensive model as your first stethoscope. Your chances of picking up that Grade I diastolic murmur that everyone else on the ward missed is slim, (although perhaps worth the extra cost if your ego is boosted by that sort of thing).
Remember too, that stethoscopes frequently get misplaced or stolen. To my knowledge, no model comes equipped with a GPS tracking device.
