Daughter is EXTREMELY afraid of the doctor?
she is 5...we go about every month and she is positively horrified. as soon as someone goes near her with medical equipment she freaks out (ever since she got an certain type of iv line in without sedation once) and it is really bad. we tried bribes, we've tried everything, but how am i supposed to get her to just hold still for the doctor?? they don't do anything but blood pressure, pulse ox, height, weight, stethoscope and throat culture, and a lung function test and an occasional blood draw. so idk how to get her to stop being so scared! any tricks?
Maybe bring a doll or stuff animal and a pretend medical kit. Then as she has things done to her, then she can do those things to the doll. It gives children a sense of power or something. I heard about this on a medical show once. They sometimes do this in pediatric hospital to help their patients deal with the fear.
Or ask the nurses and doctors to do the tests on the doll first. That way your daughter doesn't feel so alone in having these things done. I think most doctors would agree to this.
