Large Animal Stethoscope
Supplies for First year Veterinary School?
I asked this in higher learning as well, but I thought I might get a better response here.
I am pretty broke and would like to start stockpiling things I will need during the year at school now, while I still have money.
Do I need a stethoscope (large and small animal)? Lab coats? any books that are guaranteed to be on the list?
I am going to Madison, WI, if that makes any difference.

I know there are different stethoscope ends for large and small animal- not quite sure on the mechanics, but I know it is to hear the heart better in a larger or smaller animal.
I have radiology the first semester- not sure if we use actual animals or just look at x-rays.
in tech school we had to get a stethoscope, goggles, and lab coats on top of our books. we jumped in right away learning how to take vitals on dogs and cats.
if i remember right a stethoscope is a stethoscope for large and small animal unless you are a cardiologist they tend to get special scopes and such
i'm sure it will be the same in vet school as far as learning vitals in the first year or vet school

What should I look for in a stethoscope for a vet student?
I'm looking to buy a good quality stethoscope to use for both large and small animals. We've not been given any specific requirements but I'd like a good quality one that will last me and will be able to hear everything we're supposed to.
My lecturers are giving conflicting views on the bell - our large animal lecturers say that it doesn't work for animals because their fur prevents a good seal and that 'proper' veterinary stethoscopes don't have them, while our small animal vets say that they're fine. So I'd appreciate your views on this too.
