Electronic Stethoscope Amplifies
Are electronic stehoscopes "worth it"?
I am shopping for a really excellent quality stethoscope as a present for a BSN-RN person's graduation present, and I notice that several of the more expensive ones are electronically amplified. Is this a really useful feature? I know nothing about this, but I really want to buy a top-notch stethoscope. But I want to make sure that this isn't some silly gimmick.
If it matters, he will be working Pediatric Oncology.
The Littmann pediatric model (or models?) has a smaller bell and diaphragm ideal for infants, toddlers and children. Don't confuse this with the infant model which is too small for use outside the newborn nursery. The pediatric model is also servicable for teen-agers, too, although an adult model would be more convenient. The Littmann is light and very portable, can be worn all day without chafing.
Expect to pay around $100 and change. The Sprague-Rappaports are excellent stethoscopes, but heavier and somewhat bothersome to me. An electronic stethoscope is probably overkill for a pediatric oncology nurse.

Where can I get an amplified stethoscope to listen to blood pressure's better?
I'm looking for an amplfied stethoscope so I can hear the BP's better, now I saw on a website a couple months ago, an amplified one that wasn't electronic and it was only about $50 and that's something I would like to have! But I can't seem to find that website anymore, any ideas?
If you want an amplified scope, try the electronic ones. I have never seen a $50 amplified scope, and I'm not sure how good it would be at that price?
There is a littmann 3100 that will give you the pulse reading as well as amplifying the sound. They cost more than $50 but a friend tried one at a med show and he said it was awesome!
