what are clinical guidelines?, why is there a move towards electronic guidlines?electronic guideline modeling?
Clinical guidelines are systematically developed statements designed to help practitioners and patients make decisions about appropriate health care for specific circumstances1. There is currently a move to create electronic versions of clinical guidelines. Write an essay that describes what clinical guidelines are, why is there a move towards electronic guidelines, electronic guideline modeling and tools, frameworks for modeling electronic guidelines, components of electronic guidelines, and any other issues surrounding electronic clinical guidelines.
Ostensibly, the move toward electronic guidelines is to facilitate ease of access among practitioners, thereby increasing dissemination, availability and compliance. Theoretically, this infusion of "evidence based" medicine will trickle down and result in improved patient outcomes (e.g., fewer med errors, lives saved).
In reality, the move toward electronic clinical guidelines is to facilitate the advent of socialized medicine (thereby destroying quality health care in the USA in the process). The feds need strict control over both practitioners AND patients. By demanding a one-size-fits-all approach, the feds save a great deal of money and (theoretically) protect themselves from lawsuits by understandably enraged citizens.
Although they sound great on the surface (who could argue with encouraging practitioners to use only EVIDENCE based practices), in reality, they tie the hands of health care providers. Unfortunately, patients' problems are MUCH more complex and multi-faceted than the relatively "pure" versions of conditions/disorders necessary for scientific testing (and the creation of the guidelines). It is more the RULE than the exception that a given client's presenting concerns will mimic those of an experiment participant closely enough that the practitioner will receive identical results when adhering strictly to the manualized treatments suggested by the "evidence".
The bottom line is that medicine suffers when you tie the hands of physicians. "Evidence based guidelines" (whether electronic or traditional) represent a major threat to the autonomy of health care providers, and ultimately a threat to the health of the patient.

Electronic Data Capture $63.73 High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles An Electronic Data Capture (EDe system is a computerized system designed for the collection of clinical data in electronic format for use mainly in human clinical trials. Typically, EDC systems provide: a graphical user interface component for data entry, a validation component to check user data, a reporting tool for analysis of the collected data. EDC systems are used by life sciences organizations, broadly defined as the pharmaceutical, medical device and biotechnology industries in all aspects of clinical research, but are particularly beneficial for late phase (phase IIIIV) studies and pharmacovigilance and postmarket safety surveillance. EDC can increase the data accuracy and decrease the time to collect data for studies of drugs and medical devices. Electronic Medical Record Infrastructures (Hardcover) $170.2 This volume in the CHC series is an overview of the critical information structures and standards required to build multifunctional electronic medical records (EMR). Description and critique of present clinical coding systems is emphasized, followed by the development of ideal design criteria required for a practical classification environment to support the electronic capture, presentation, and analyses of patient observations, findings, and events. The relationship of medical knowledge representation to patient data classification is examined, in the context of integrating clinical decision support systems and contextually appropriate guidelines into EMR systems. The role of messaging and content standards for the EMR is considered, covering the existing standards today, and those under active development that are likely to influence system implementation and functionality in the near future. |

Peer Teaching and Learning in Clinical Education $124.27 Informal and incidental use of peer education is common practice, but it has lacked definition in its implementation. Considerable literature is in existence. However, there is a lack of quality evidence on the application and effectiveness of this educational intervention. The purpose of this review has been to increase the theoretical body of knowledge, which informs this educational practice. Method A search was conducted of health science and educational electronic databases using the terms peer, clinical education and undergraduate. The set limitations of the search were publication after 1980, English language and research paper. From this twelve articles met the inclusion criteria. Due to considerable heterogeniety in the education approaches and research designs of the included studies. The results have been collated into a narrative summary. Outcomes This review demonstrated mostly positive outcomes on the effectiveness of peer teaching and learning in clinical practice but it also identifies some negative aspects.
