Special Hearing Stethoscope
I recently bought a Stethoscope but I can't hear the heart beats when I place the device in my ears...?
What could this be.Do I have to do something special in order to hear the heart beats???? When I tap the stethoscope,I can hear the tap in my ears but when I place the device in the chest of another person I can't listen anything. The Stethoscope is from a Graham-Field Brand.Thanks for your help.
Does your stethoscope have two sides? It should turn and "click" into place. One side is flat, the other is somewhat bell shaped. The flat shape is used most often but the bell shaped side can be used for sounds like heart murmurs, etc. Anyway ... if the stethoscope isn't "clicked" into place properly you won't hear anything from either side. The only other possibility I can think of is that your ear pieces don't fit properly. Most stethoscopes include extra ear pieces ... try the smaller pieces first. The larger pieces can "fill" your ear canal and prevent you from hearing.
Practice with your own heart beat first until you learn how to position the stehoscope properly.

can you use stethoscopes with hearing aids?
when I served in operation enduring freedom as a combat refueler/combat life-saver I damaged my hearing while sitting next to the pump on the tanker. I became a medic when I got out of the army now I am suppose to get one hearing aid in my left ear..(the right one still doesn't need one) can you use stethoscopes with hearing aids? do you need a special stethoscope?

A BTE earmold can be modified with a dimple (or well) in the heel of the earmold that will accept the stethoscope eartip. It centers the sound outlet of the stethoscope with the vent hole in the earmold, allowing the sound to go more directly into the ear canal
You do need a special stethoscope. The coolest new ones use bluetooth (i.e. the stethscope broadcasts the heartbeat using bluetooth, and your hearing aid picks it up automatically)
