stethoscope to hear a chick heartbeat in an egg?
Hi,
I have a chick that was supposed to hatch yesterday well it didn't and i was wondering if you could use a stethoscope to hear the chicks heartbeat to see if it is still alive?
I'm not sure you would be able to pick up the heartbeat of the chick, but then again, it may be possible. When the chick begins to hatch, it will first pick its way into the air sack. It should then start making cheeping noises, and within the next twenty four hours it will begin to break through the shell. If you candle the chick and see that it's beak is through the air sack but has not broken through the shell yet, you can poke a TINY hole in the portion of the shell where the air sack is. What this does is make sure the baby doesn't run out of air before it begins to break through the shell.
This method isn't often recommended if you only want the strongest and toughest to survive the hatching. If you are hatching the chick for recreation or something of the like, it shouldn't be an issue.
If you candle the egg (quickly before it gets cool) and the chick is near hatching, you will tend to see dark, conspicuous movement within the egg. the air sack should also take up a fourth to a third of the egg by this time.

This is my first baby 15 weeks pregnant can you hear the heart beat with a stethoscope and when?
yes there is a chance you may be able to hear it with this, but better to try a fetal heart monitor they work from as early as 12weeks, i had one with my son and it was brilliant, saved me lots of worry when i had bleeding as i had suffered 3miscarriages before i got pregnant with him
