Bp Cuff Stethoscope
Question on BP monitors. See additional details?
Whenever I visit the DR. my blood pressure is high on the automatic machine but on the stethoscope and cuff, it is dramatically lowered. Note I am always nervous at the doctor. Why is this? For example at the ER, my blood pressure was 150/80 on the automatic (the one that inflates by its self) but on the stethoscope it was 125/75. Why is this?
The manual blood pressure is most usually more reliable. In EMS we've found that the machines can routinely be off by 30 points mmhg or more. For any blood pressures that a decision needs to be made from, take manual bp's first and then compare to the machine.
The machines only have to be accurate to within a certain range, just like glucometers, for auto bp's that range seems to be plus or minus 15 to 20 points.

how do you take a thigh and forearm blood pressure?
