aneroid sphygmomanometer problem. gauge not going up with pump?
I just purchased a prestige medical sphygmomanometer and it inflates but the gauge will not move until the bag is really full and then the air won't release when i turn the turn the dial down. is there something that i can do? i dont think there is a leak because i cant hear air escaping
You must apply the cuff to something for it to work correctly. The analog gauge will not move until there is back pressure in the valve within the gauge. An empty cuff does not generate sufficient back pressure as there is nothing for the inflated bag to press against but itself. Ditto for deflation.
Try applying it to another person or to an object with roughly the same circumference of an arm. Now the valve and bag should register correctly. If you don't have another person handy, wrap it around your leg just above the ankle and test it. Make sure the valve is completely closed when inflating, and open when deflating. Good luck.
